Anyone who is in hearing range of Micah for even 2 minutes knows he has no problem with verbal communication. He does have a problem pausing the verbal communication (see older post). :-) We are now diving big time into discussions of truth, right, wrong, pleasing God, what we like vs what God likes, etc.
His new phrase for when he feels the consequences of a poor decision is, "I don't LAHeek it!" This has been an easy in to teaching that, as Jay's preschool teacher used to sing, "The happy way is to obey!" (The toddler's version of a lesson from Joshua 1:8, Colossians 3 and Ps 19:7-11). It is so easy to see in a toddler's life how unnatural it is for us to do what is right. It doesn't make sense from any perspective except from one transformed by the Word of God. Why offer your friend a toy you are really enjoying? Why ask mommy before you take something? Why not throw a fit when you don't want to have playtime in your room? Why not yank the toy back someone just took from you? Why not get angry and throw that frustrating toy across the room? Why not make a hullabaloo when Daddy comes home and picks Lydia up first? We are definitely fighting a war against his (and our) inborn natures. As he grows older our prayers for God to transform his heart grow more fervent.
On the other hand, we praise God for the ability little children have to believe anything and memorize anything. Micah has no qualms about the existence of God, of that there is such a thing as sin, or that God sees everything he does, or that God turns the rain on and off. Micah memorizes Bible verses faster than I do practically! Currently we are working on, "Love is patient, love is kind, and is...not...jealous." (1 Cor 13:4a) Micah (and Lydia even more) has one quality that I need to work on. Immediately granting complete forgiveness when I ask him, and having a heartfelt love for me even the second after I wrong him. May that continue as he grows older and understands things more. :-)
There is so much to learn from our kids! About God and about us.
